Maggie Stiefvater writes an unusual fantasy centering around the capaill visce, which are vicious, flesh-eating water horses that live in the sea. Each November men brave to race these creatures. That is until Puck decides to race to delay her brother leaving for the mainland.
Sean and Puck tell their own stories as the race draws near, stories of their paths crossing, their family secrets and of the heartache that resides within themselves.
This novel would have to be on the cusp of YA fiction and adult fiction as the story starts the reader will find the concept of water horses absurd, yet as the characters narrate, readers will become believers!
Scorpio Races is well written and able to transport readers into the pages. Characters, easy to relate to and adventures that can only be dreamed about.-Scorpio Races is a must read for fantasy and horse lovers alike!
